Art and Food Prep

Many years ago, I received one of my favorite presents ever- a beautiful mortar and pestle. I'd always wanted a mortar and pestle but I'd never sprung for one myself. It started a love affair with mortars and pestles everywhere. There's something so satisfying and therapeutic about physically grinding your own spices and experiencing the burst of smells that accompany it.

Recently, I came upon this beauty and I'm entranced:

Tom Dixon Spice Grinder

It's so gorgeous, I can't even handle it. I think that it would look really beautiful on the counter next to my original mortar and pestle. Maybe I could start a collection...

So in case anyone is looking for any gift ideas (for me), here you go. You're welcome.

Happy Weekend, Friends!

Redo in Blue

So the color blue isn’t usually in my wheelhouse when in comes to decorating. I always admire it in other people’s spaces but it never occurs to me to try it in my own. But yesterday Jenny posted a kitchen renovation that seriously “blue” my mind! (Ha!)

One King’s Lane Kitchen redo

I think what makes it for me is the brass finishes everywhere. The pulls on the drawers and the cabinets are just so sleek and pretty and contrasty against the blue.

I need these pulls in my life somewhere.

Not to mention the lighting, which is gorgeous and looks so fresh and modern against the blue.

Pendant Light with Edison bulb- who doesn’t love a good Edison bulb?

And who doesn’t love brass?

So, I could just post every single image from the redo or you could go and check it out yourself, which you should. And get a good blue start to your weekend. In a good way.

Happy Weekend, Friends!

Can't Be Killed

Plaster Succulent Sculpture, 3-4" tall x 3-3.5" wide

Try as I may, I am not the best at keeping plants alive in our non-temperature controlled apartment. So I've decided to investigate some artificial greenery that will liven up the place without the yucky silk flower look of most grandmotherly arrangements. These beauties will survive FOREVER without water and sunlight! AND they are all made of totally different materials!

Brass Spring Onion Vase, 13.25" tall

Fabric Terrarium in Ball Jar, 4" tall x 2.5" wide

Glass Venus Flytrap, 4" tall x 2" wide

Minimal, Usually Mundane, Objects

I could just crawl into that picture and live inside it. There is something so quiet and pleasing about this image. All these items are from Daniel - Emma and can be purchased each separately. However I think they are best together.

 Radio

 Polished brass paperweights.

Cork cone. (Because everyone needs a cork cone- come on!)

Thermometer.

Pencil box- probably my favorite.

Have an inspiring day!

Etsy Find

Oh no! I want this! I want it really really bad!

Adorable brass rooster hook available now on Etsy for $22 plus $8 for shipping. I'm pulling my hair out going crazy over this hook! It's totally country chic. I have a soft spot for country chic. My mom decorated our entire childhood home in rooster tea cozies and stenciled checker boards hanging on the walls. This adorable find can be bought from Etsy seller EstateEclectic.

I should mention it was Cathleen/Catie that first introduced me to Etsy and gave a then nervous Grace a tutorial on how to use it. Thanks, Catie!

Let’s Get Down to Brass Tacks

Brass Cracker Necklace, $24, via basilthecat on Etsy
When I was little, I used to get asked if I was a Georgia Peach or a Georgia Cracker. Having no idea what they were getting at, I just thought about those delicious salty, crispy, sometime cheese-dusted snacks and proudly declared my allegiance. This awesome Cracker Necklace would let me say it with brass.

Clicking through my Favorites file on Etsy, I noticed that I have quite the affection for brass pendants on long chains. Here are a few of the best:

That's one tough nut, $32, by contrary on Etsy

Tell a friend. Tell a neighbor. Telescope, $24, by GardenOfSypria on Etsy

For my sister from another mister, $20, via basilthecat on Etsy

A necklace for your top three, $44, by Verabelle on Etsy
