Pin-Up Girls 1950s

Something that has been a subject of art and art history for as long as art has been made is the way women are viewed and when I say viewed I mean that both literally and metaphorically.

I found this series of pin-up girls before and afters from the 1950s on Retronaut

I think the way men, often the artist, want to portray women is interesting and extraordinarily telling.

When viewing an image of a woman envision a man in an identical pose and comparable clothing... does the man look ridiculous?

More thoughts on this on Tuesday.

Happy Weekend!!!

  1. This reminds me of the Venus Project the artist manipulates classical images of women to conform to current standards of beauty... did you see that?
