Artwork of the Week: Drawing by Junyi Wu

Alissa! I feel the same way! Fall is so open! Full of possibilities! Brimming with potential!
We've just finished setting up our living room (after moving in almost 4 months ago) and it feels like a fresh start. We splurged and had it painted in my favorite Pewter Mug gray and spent one night last week hanging art on the walls. I even took a drawing that we received as a wedding gift (over 3 years ago) to be framed and I'm SO excited to finally see it hung in our home and checked off my to-do list.

And I bought a new plant! (To replace one that was recently confirmed dead.) Things are really looking bright shiny and new over here!

You can see more work from Los Angeles-based illustrator Junyi Wu on the artist's website and Tumblr, as well as purchase original artwork and prints online from Nucleus Gallery.

Hanging Garden

Isn't this leafy mobile lovely? It reminds me a lot of the black and white plant drawings of Ellsworth Kelly. This particular balancing act, titled Jungalow, was created by Chuck Kubba in collaboration with designer Justina Blakeney. Chuck sells more mobiles through his Etsy shop, comometalworks where this black beauty is available for $190.

Done: Window Shelves

We did it! All of my window shelving dreams have come true!

I don't think it warrants sharing detailed DIY instructions---we just went to Home Depot, picked out the right size tracks and corresponding shelves, brackets, and screw kit, then installed everything with a power drill---but I'm pretty proud of how they turned out.

I convinced Micky that the window shelves could be our Valentine's Day gift to each other, but I'm the one who really wanted them. And he very kindly let me loose in the plant department to pick out some greenery. Including this bad boy: a Venus Flytrap!!! I have ALWAYS wanted one of these!

Now to just keep them all alive.

Artwork of the Week: What's in the Bag???

I don't know where this photograph came from or who took it, but I love it.
There, I said it.

If anyone else knows the title or author, please tell me!
Until then, let's revel in the mystery of it all, shall we?

UPDATE: Thanks to the gifted and talented research queen Kait Handler, we now know the piece is called In Bloom and it was made in 2009 by Wim Wauman. Thank you, Kait! Remind me next time to just skip Google and call you directly.

Can't Be Killed

Plaster Succulent Sculpture, 3-4" tall x 3-3.5" wide

Try as I may, I am not the best at keeping plants alive in our non-temperature controlled apartment. So I've decided to investigate some artificial greenery that will liven up the place without the yucky silk flower look of most grandmotherly arrangements. These beauties will survive FOREVER without water and sunlight! AND they are all made of totally different materials!

Brass Spring Onion Vase, 13.25" tall

Fabric Terrarium in Ball Jar, 4" tall x 2.5" wide

Glass Venus Flytrap, 4" tall x 2" wide
